222 Seashells Later... the Sketchbook is Full!
Approximately a Year Later I finished my Sketchbook!
Believe it or not I just finished my first FULL sketchbook the other day.
I’ve pretty much always made art, but keeping a regular sketchbook was not something I did until last year.
Sure I had, had sketchbooks, but I had never filled one.
Prior to 2025, I had been working in an Archer and Olive dotted notebook that I would plan ideas in. I also started sketching from Coastal Living Magazines in it when a new issue came out.
I learned in 2024 that doing that occasionally actually lead to great ideas, so in 2025 I decided to start using one more regularly.
I talked about it in a previous post you can read the full on story here…
But…. If you Don’t want to read that
The gist was I needed something smaller, something less $ (so I wouldn’t feel precious about it) and a lil go bag for supplies so it was easy to throw into a tote bag, or even just my purse. (I added a pen loop to my sketchbook for that last one so I would have zero excuses.
I truly tried to set myself up for success and honestly it worked.
More often than not if I left the house, my sketchbook came with me. Even if I didn’t sketch in the moment, I had it with me! Which is the first step in my opinion.
After a lil trial and error I learned I love taking it to a coffee shop, and even if I don’t draw in it, having it with me to flip through literally just helps gain ideas.
I also learned that just because a moment passed doesn’t mean you can’t revisit it and document it in your sketchbook.
Some of my fave pages are pages that document fun days. Also there were days when I had no clue what to doodle or draw and revisiting my camera roll from fun days was helpful and let me draw something.
I learned that mundane days that don’t always seem like days you would document can actually become fun to document when you realize all of the small special moments!
There were also times where I didn’t like what I made in the moment but weeks later I would realized I learned something from it. Other times those pages became swatch pages!
Ultimately time in the sketchbook is never time wasted.
It’s kinda bittersweet finishing it up. I genuinely feel like I’ll miss having the treasure trove of ideas with me at all times which sounds a lil weird. But I have already been moving into a new sketchbook!
Should I film a sketchbook tour? I LOVE watching them, and I do have a bit of a dusty Youtube channel at the moment. What do you think? Would you watch a Sketchbook Tour?
Sketchbook Wrapped
Ok I thought it would be fun to do a lil Sketchbook Wrapped as I wrap it all up with random facts.
222 Seashells were illustrated/doodled/drawn in this sketchbook!
There was 1 Drink Spill Incident! (no pages were seriously harmed)
I used a fountain pen for this first time ever in this sketchbook
Most Used Supplies :
Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen (Hard Tip)
Le Pen in Oriental Blue
Magic Pencil in Tropical
Pilot Kakuno with default Ink
Zebra Mildliners
It was a fun sketchbook full of memories, lots of trial and error, which is what sketch booking it all about in my opinion. Let me know if I should do a proper sketchbook tour on Youtube below!
If you want to see more pages you can find lil peeks in older posts, I’ll share some below!
Thanks for reading and I’ll Sea Ya Next time!
