A Chill Sunday, Art Videos, & Sketchbook Time
What I decided to draw when It was too cold!
Hello Hello!
You usually see me on a Sunday evening but we were Frozen here in Florida yesterday and I decided to just use it as a day offline. My phone didn’t leave the area it charged, my laptop stayed away, and it was nice!
I wore layers and actually took my sketchbook to the sofa, got all cozy under a blanket and just chilled (but by chilled I mean tried to stay warm!😂).
It started with a bit of Youtube on the TV. There is something cozy about watching Youtube on the TV on a Sunday morning in my opinion. I like many different types of Youtube channels, but when it comes to art Youtube I don’t actually enjoy a tutorial, and I don’t often watch people who create the same type of art I create. SOooo, I thought it would be fun to make a lil list of my favorite Art Related Youtube Channels to watch!
Art Channels to Watch
FurrylittlePeach - I feel like this is a given for everyone in the art world but I always enjoy the videos Sha’an puts together. Be it a vlog, Peachtober, a ramble. It’s just nice, and enjoyable! One of her videos last year lead to me buying Creative Demons and How to Slay Them, and it’s such a good book!!!
Sophie McPike - Again I feel lots of others probably already know this channel, but I think I found Sophies early last year due to a sketchbook tour video! Her videos are lovely, and how she talks about the creative process, and just everything! I really enjoy her videos - also have you watched any videos about the pieces for her calendar?! Wow! Sophie should write a book!
Fiona Stabler - Love seeing into her sketchbook, and the cute places she goes and draws, plus you can’t forget Rolo! Such a cutie! The vlogs just have a real cozy feel! Also she totally got me into wanting a fountain pen last year, and since doing so it’s been a great addition to my sketchbook!
Jess Karp - Not my usual style of channel I gravitate towards cause it feels a lil closer to a tutorial/educational, but also not! I LOVE her sketchbook artist date videos. The on location art videos are my favorite, and make me want to go out with my sketchbook! Also it’s not often I see other Florida artists in this way so it’s neat! I’m also convinced she can illustrate literally anything!
Pearfluer - This channel is so lovely! She doesn’t update with new videos that often but when there is a new video they are always so well edited, and just make everything look so lovely! The array of mediums she plays with is fun and I think all artists can benefit from play with something new from time to time! :)
Now as I alluded to earlier… Sunday was COLD and it seemed like a good day to just relax on the sofa.
I did also mention I brought my sketchbook with me sooo… After a few art videos we pivoted because the WSL Pipe Challenger was live so we turned that on, and watched it while doodling.
Something you should probably know about me is, I don’t like winter. I don’t like the cold. I thrive in warm temperatures, and sunshine and those things fuel my art.
SOOO as I opened my sketchbook I realized I had zero ideas as to what to do. I was like whoa, it’s been so long since I painted as I glanced over at my easel. Then I was questioning myself. Like can I even still paint? If you create art you are probably familiar with the spiral….. So I closed my sketchbook, and just watched the surfing which was honestly nice.
Everyone looked so warm, the water was LOVELY and I mean this was Pipeline which is one of the prettiest waves. SOoo in a way I was still doing art research since I do enjoy painting a wave. 🙂
It was a live stream, so there weren’t really your “traditional commercials”, but there were like commercial placeholders, and occasional related commercials, but all themed around the event. One view was shown numerous times and I decided that, that is what I would doodle.
I’ve recently put a new ink into my fountain pen, and I also realized I can use an Aqua brush to spread around the ink so it seemed Like a fun idea!
I started with the Pilot Color Eno since I wasn’t feeling too confident in anything, and then learned that my fountain pen doesn’t go on top of it super well. 👀 I mean it was horrible but it wasn’t great, but I made do.
It all came together though and it ended up being a fun page with bits of what I was watching.
The ocean is literally my favorite topic but it’s something I can’t often “sketch”, it always feels like something to paint instead. Anyone else have certain subjects that feel this way?
Now in this instance I did use a lil water with the ink and I would say using the bit of water helped, but still I find the ocean hard to sketch, but all in all it was great palm tree practice no matter the results! 😁
The day with no phone ended with The Grammy awards! Which honestly I wasn’t too excited about… But I was excited/hopeful to see if we would see anything that felt like hope.
It’s been a very rough year in the US, always being bombarded with horrible things, and witnessing much of it in real time on our lil screens. So I was intrigued to know if anyone would use their platforms, aka the Grammy awards, to speak up.
It did indeed happen, and it was nice to see! It actually felt like watching something where everyone was united. As weird as many that sound, but it felt like that. Kinda like when you are at a peaceful protest and you know everyone there is on the same page. Just nice!
Now to end off the Day Delayed Newsletter I thought it would be fun to do another list of 5 things like I did at the start with fun Youtube Channels. One with some music to add to your lineup this week, because you know music is always on here! 🙂
