Peek Inside My Sketchbook
and a lil ramble, plus catch up on how my sketchbooking habit is going so far!
So far for *most* of the posts I’ve written on this platform I’ve written them ahead of the actual publish date. Which honestly is not normal for me.
However today, is not normal. I’m writing this on the day its going out which for Substack for some reason this feels weird?
See, when it comes to my 25 Sweetpeas “🎨Studio Notes” Newsletter that I put out every Wednesday I almost ALWAYS write them on the day of.
Some might think that’s crazy, but it just works.
I feel like it’s a true representation of things, and since I have one lil section called ✨Tid-Bits✨ (which is honestly such a fun part to write!) sometimes it contains “timely” info so it just feels right to write it on the DAY OF publication.
This last week though, I wrote it one day ahead , which was SO weird, but I knew I was going to be out I planned ahead.
However, it was weird, so I guess today I am writing this one spontaneously like I normally do the 🎨Studio Notes.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to share today. My mindset hasn’t been great the past few days to be honest, and I’m sure I’m not alone in that these days! 😣 Which is a bummer for all of us!
In fact I should probably go back to my last post and give it a re-read because today me could use it.
So today I think it’s time to finally get INTO the sketchbook! :)
My second post on here was all about how I was going to start a sketchbook this year, how I was going to make it a regular habit, and how I was going to just doodle with out expectations pretty much.
Guess what?
It’s March and I’ve pretty much kept that going. I’ve been sketch booking regularly, and it’s been SO nice.
I’ll admit it is not daily, but I make time for it more often than not.
Sure I’ve made some really flop pages, but I’ve not let it stop me.
A great trick I’ve learned in tackling THOSE pages is to just use them as swatch pages. 😂 Seriously, like then it just turns into a rainbow of random art supplies, and it’s not meant to look any certain way.
In the moment those pages annoyed me for sure!
BUT I’ve gotten so much better at just not really caring.
It does not in fact doom the rest of the sketchbook, although you may certainly feel that in the moment!🙃
(Also, note: I did try the post it note trick for these ugly pages, BUT when I worked on the next page it would make a lil imprint, and then when I started taking it in and out it got less sticky, and then started to fall out more. SO a swatch page it is!)
Ok, now how about some sketchbook photos? One thing about this sketchbook that you need to know is that these pages are super yellow.
Not my fave but I don’t feel super precious about the paper so it works. That being said, every time I photo it… It looks a bit different.
So if you are used to my photos all looking nice, and consistent. Well that’s not happening with these sketchbook snaps!😂 I mean I will try, but so far it’s not going well! Ha!

The shark eye was a super random page but I’ve found that I like the pages that are next to each other to “match” for since I did a sand dollar on one side, I did a Shark Eye shell on the other in a similar style.
I used a mix of Pencils and Watercolor markers.
The Orange was for a prompt from Katie Moody’s prompt list last month! Pop of Orange.
Inspired by my own sticker I re-imagined it with markers and pencils and added some stripes!
The fun thing about this Orange one is it actually inspired a new Recipe Card for my shop! So, the sketchbook was indeed working its magic!✨
I always see people do cute lil scribbly landscapes and I was loosing light but wanted to do SOMETHING in my sketchbook, so I opened Unsplash, found a reference, and stated getting color down quickly
I used a few watercolor markers and some pencils. Basically what ever was in reach. I think this potentially was done in about 5 Minutes.
Even tho its pretty different for me, it was really fun!
Normally for me sketch booking looks more like the fish page I showed at the top, so I don’t usually have a ton of supplies around.
I love the idea of working in color, but the other just feels more me in a sketchbook. Not sure why, but, I’m working on it! 😉
Well hope you enjoyed this really sorta just random post with photos of the inside of my sketchbook!
Working on figuring out a more fun way to show things, but today just felt like a chill writing and sharing day. 🙂
Have you been working in a sketchbook? Learn anything interesting?
Sea ya Next Time!
