Starting A New Sketchbook + 100 Day Catch Up
A busy few weeks has made sharing here a bit more tricky!
Hello Hello!
Hope you are having a lovely day! It’s been a busy busy few weeks filled with lots of fun work and impromptu plans, so unfortunately in the shuffle I kinda let this weekly newsletter fall behind! But it’s time to get back into some shape of a routine! 🙂
100 Day Project Update!
Still going strong but admittedly I missed a few days over the past week but have “made up for it” by doing multiple pages on a few days. Now I do want to say the missed days weren’t really “missed”. I didn’t intentionally skip or anything, I literally just ran out of time on a few days. All fun days though so maybe they were inspiration days when you think about it! :)
I finished my last sketchbook last week and have jumped into a new one for basically the last 10 Days of my 100, and I’m trying a new sketchbook so let’s chat about that!
Starting My New Sketchbook!
I’m going back to the square format of the Talens Art Creations sketchbooks, but I’m trying out the cork version which has pure white paper! SO back to my fave size but a different paper color and I’m excited.
I mean look at the color difference in the paper!! When I first started keeping a sketchbook I was most hesitant about the yellow paper, but I eventually got used to it I guess! That being said I’m really excited about the pure white paper.
I usually feel weird about starting a sketchbook, like how do you break it in? I’ve decided a page full of testing supplies is the way. Especially since in this instance its a new white paper, and I think it feels a bit smoother than the original yellow paper.
Right off the bat I’m loving how vibrant all of my supplies look!
I scribbled on a lil bit of everything to test the paper. I even did a lil ocean scene with Neocolors to see if the paper handled water well, which eh. I do feel like the yellow-y paper handles the water a bit better. I actually noticed that is did bleed a lil to the back of the paper soooo. That being said the Neocolors are so creamy feeling on this paper!!
Also the Holbein Colored pencils are dreamy!
Overall so far I’m enjoying the pure white paper, and I am excited to keep going! Also it feels super nice to be back in the square format!
I still find starting a new sketchbook weird, and kinda awkward, but I think the fact I am doing the 100 Day Project is indeed helping, and pushing me to keep on going, that being said I didn’t like my first real page.👀 I attempted to do ink + color which isn’t a combo I typically do so I shoulda just kept with something I am comfortable with, but oh well! I think I was just excited about how colors show up so nicely.
For the next two pages I decided to use my rainbow pencil and just doodle my comfort doodles. AKA my go to when I’m not sure what I want to do, another lil way of breaking in a new sketchbook.
So I doodled some shells! Nothing spectacular by any means, but that’s ok! I watched this vlog from Loindaflow last night and her pencil sketches looked so nice which made me want to play with pencils. Tho I will say a rainbow pencil doesn’t really work in the same way! 😂 Whoopsie! Maybe when it’s not storming I can take a photo to share! 🙂 Until then just know it looks like most other random shell doodle pages. Hehe!
Oh well, the weird new sketchbook phase shall pass soon I hope! Now off to work on todays page, Day 96!
Sea ya Soon!
